HISTORY OF ESTABLISHMENT
CHORAY hospital was established in 1900, officially named “Hospital Municipal de Cholon”. Then, its name was consecutively changed to “Hospital Indigene de Cochinchine” (1919), “Hospital Lolung Bonnoires” (1938), “Hospital 415” (1945). After that, the hospital was divided into two clinics named Ham Nghi and Nam Viet. These two clinics were joined again in 1957 to become “CHORAY HOSPITAL” till today. In reality, this name was publicly called since its establishments.
In 1971, Choray hospital was rebuilt on area of 53,000m 2 and modernly equipped to become one of the biggest hospitals in South East Asia. This construction was accomplished in June 1974 with the grant aid from the Japanese government.The new structure of Choray hospital nowadays is an eleven-story building. |

MISSION AND FUNCTIONS
Choray hospital is one of the 3 large hospitals that the MOH invests to become a completed general hospital. Nowadays, the hospital has 35 clinical, 11 subclinical and 8 functional departments.
The main functions of Choray hospital is treating patients from the Southern provinces, teaching medical students and post graduated, scientific researching and directing to the first line.
Choray hospital is a teaching hospital of Ho Chi Minh City Medical School. Even that, the hospital actively organizes the technological and technical trainings for the doctors from the Southern provinces. Each year, the hospital receives over 2,500 medical students for practicing and over 600 doctors for postgraduate refreshing.
Under the directing of the MOH, Cho Ray hospital with 2,270 health workers including 500 medical doctors and pharmacists, delivers treatment for over 457,000 outpatients and about 67,000 inpatients per year. Choray Hospital is the top referral hospital of the 37 Southern provinces, including Ho Chi Minh City, with a total population of 40 millions.
